PDF Metadata Editor
Change what a PDF says about itself: the title readers show in the tab and in search results, the author, subject, keywords, the apps that made it, and the created and changed dates. The hidden XMP copy is updated too, so every reader shows the same thing.

What is PDF metadata?
It is information a PDF carries about itself. The PDF standard, ISO 32000, defines a document information dictionary with fields for the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date and modification date. A file can also hold an XMP packet, an XML block with the same details and sometimes more, such as rights or a PDF/A claim.
Why does my PDF still show the old title after editing?
Usually because the file holds two copies of the details. A tool that changes only the document information dictionary leaves the XMP copy as it was, and a reader that prefers XMP keeps showing the old title. This editor writes both. The table shows the same test file edited both ways.
| Read back from the saved file | Before | Details only changed | Both copies changed (this tool) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title in the document details | Draft 3 | Annual report 2026 | Annual report 2026 |
| Title in the XMP copy | Draft 3 | Draft 3 | Annual report 2026 |
| Author in the XMP copy | jsmith | jsmith | Finance team |
| PDF/A identification in the XMP copy | kept | kept | kept |
How do I change the author of a PDF?
Open the PDF here and type the new name in Author. For several authors, separate the names with a semicolon: the document details keep the text as typed, and the XMP copy lists each name on its own. Press Save details. The author shown under Properties in a PDF reader then changes.
How are PDF dates stored?
As text in a fixed pattern. The document details write D, a colon, the year, month, day, hours, minutes and seconds, then the offset from UTC. The XMP copy uses the ISO 8601 form. The editor reads and writes both, keeps the file's time zone, and uses your device's zone for a new date.
| Where | 12 April 2026, 09:30 at UTC+05:30 |
|---|---|
| Document details | D:20260412093000+05'30' |
| XMP copy | 2026-04-12T09:30:00+05:30 |
What do Creator and Producer mean in a PDF?
Creator names the app the document was first written in, such as Microsoft Word. Producer names the software that turned it into a PDF, such as a print driver or a PDF library. Both are free text, so you can correct them or clear them. Some apps write their own Producer again when they save the file later.
Should I edit or remove PDF metadata?
Edit it when the details should say something: a clear title helps search engines and screen readers, and a correct author credits the right person. Remove it when the file should say nothing about where it came from. The Remove PDF Metadata tool also clears attachments, comment authors and camera data in photos.
To wipe everything instead of editing it, use Remove PDF Metadata, which also shows details this form does not cover.
Limits and fixes
- Locked PDFs need their password removed first with Unlock PDF.
- Digital signatures stop being valid, because the file changes.
- Custom fields in the document details are kept but not shown for editing.
- The title in the browser tab also depends on the reader; some show the file name unless the PDF asks for its title.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no daily limit.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The file is read and saved in your browser.
Does editing metadata change the pages?
No. Text, images, links and form fields stay the same; only the details are rewritten.
Can I add keywords to a PDF?
Yes. Type them in Keywords, separated by commas. The XMP copy lists each keyword on its own.
Does it work with non-English titles?
Yes. Titles and names are stored as Unicode, so accents and other scripts are kept.
